Improvisation - Theatrical Laboratory

Over the course of four days, students learned the core principles of improv theatre — how to build a scene without a script, how to shape characters and relationships, and how to support their scene partners to create a shared story. They spent time stretching their imagination, experimenting with creativity, and sharpening their comedic timing.
Mike Lion led the camp as instructor, bringing his experience as a director, actor, translator, and clown. As Co‑Artistic Director of Dacha Theatre and a Production Associate at Youth Theatre Northwest, he drew on his extensive work with teens, including his recent staging of The Hobbit. Throughout the camp, Mike cultivated an environment where students felt safe to take risks, discover their comedic impulses, and grow more confident both onstage and off.
The camp also highlighted Mike’s long‑standing collaboration with Resonance Studio Theatre. Participants learned from an artist who has appeared in multiple Resonance productions, including Where’s Charley? and the award‑winning The Case of the Crushed Petunias.
